Simon didn’t need Athena’s abilities to hear the discord in her voice. He hesitated. He could have probed further, but he didn’t. He could have reminded her that this sort of behavior would impact her work if it continued, and that it was likely to draw the attention of others. But he didn’t. Detective Skye had no obligation to explain herself to him, and it was… impertinent of him to question her on matters that were not his business.

“I see,” he said again, for lack of anything better to say. “My apologies. Back to business, then. I assure you that I shan’t be long.”
He set the file down on the coffee table.
“There have been some updates on the forensic analysis for the Voelkel case. Specifically, we found some additional Luminol readings during this morning’s investigation of the crime scene. I had hoped to seek your expertise regarding the positioning of the blood splatter.”

it wasn’t natural of him to go out of his way for anyone. though, she knew that the two of them were birds of a feather ; they acted in the same, hypocritical manner, unwilling to take their own advice.
