           it was for a good cause; ema had staggered into the office to deliver evidence, looking so exhausted, bruises beneath her eyes so deep that apollo could very nearly feel them under his own eyes. brow furrowed with worry, he immediately set about finding a chair for her to — metaphorically, though she seemed seconds away from doing so literally — collapse down into. ema was in dire need of a quick check-out of consciousville, and he had just the thing. 

      ‘ i was just reading over some law books, and i try to read them out loud so i get a better understanding  —  that okay with you? ‘the bleary nod he got in response was no less worrying, but it was an answer, and he’d take it, clearing his throat and stealing one last nervous glance over at her before hunting down the most tepid paragraph on the current page, and beginning to read aloud. 

              within moments, she was out. he laughed softly, careful not to wake her as he moved out of his own chair, sliding a pillow placed precariously on the arm of the ratty couch below her head so that her neck wouldn’t be stiff when she woke later, having a little difficulty with how frequently she stirred.
